From what I have seen, the Biggest Loser can cause injury from their workouts. Believe me, I love the Biggest Loser and the obesity awareness it has caused. I just don't understand why they have those people doing plyometrics.
For those of you who aren't aware of plyometrics, Plyometrics is a type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in a specific sport. (ex. speed jumping, sprinting, skipping)
Last weeks episode I was watching one of the obese men jump over a step around two feet high. This is makes no sense to me. Landing on your feet in an awkward way could possibly tear a knee ligament.
Why would you ever do this type of exercise with an obese client? Is this exercise going to help him lose more calories, burn more fat? Is he training for a sport that requires jumping, like basketball, I think not.
You have to look at the pros and cons of your exercise selection. I think by showing this type of exercise, others may try it at home, and probably get hurt in the process. Maybe the Biggest Loser is trying to get more viewers, who knows.
The last thing you want when starting an exercise program is injury. Believe me, I've been there. Injuries are the most uninspiring thing you can go through. Take care of your health, its your responsibility.

I agree with Kevin. As a personal trainer myself I also notice what the Biggest Looser trainers are doing and there are things (like plyos) that really grab my attention as being inappropriate.
Injuries aside, exertional rhabdomyolysis is another possible outcome from high intensity exercise in sedentary individuals. This is probably one of the reasons why the show often mentions the inclusion of physicians at the end of each episode.
I'd enjoy seeing injury stats on current/former contestants.
